It’s going to be a warm one on the Gold Coast, so as the sun’s rays intensify on this lazy Sunday morning, we set off early to the Ray Street boat ramp at Runaway Bay. Marise is taking her Perception 12.5 kayak (aka K3) for its inaugural paddle. The foot rests are adjusted, the spray deck is checked to make sure it fits snugly. All is good. Let’s get the boats on the water.
The first leg of the paddle is 3.5kms along the canals. Just to make sure it’s all good. Seat position OK, all feeling good.
We are back at a little sandy area adjacent to the boat ramp. Time for a coffee and a cake from a local bakery.
The second leg of the paddle is to head out to the northern end of Wavebreak Island.
At this time of the year every man and his dog/boat/jet ski/SUP/kayak is on the water and today is no exception. In spite of the mayhem, we manage to find a spot to beach the kayaks and enjoy a refreshing swim.
By the time we return to our launch site a few hours later, we have paddled 7 kms, averaging about 5 km/hour and Marise has well and truly bonded with K3!
