The Great Ocean Road is now well and truly behind us. Our accommodation in Penola in the Coonawarra Wine Region is a beautiful historic cottage named ‘Sarah’s Cottage’. It was named after the main owner who lived there for 71 years.
The present owner, Leolla, has done an amazing job in creating a living space that reflects a bygone era. Nothing has been spared in the restoration process. Read more about this amazing place here -> Sarah’s Cottage.
We spent both evenings in front of the open fire, sipping vintage port; after a relaxing spa.
Our last full day on the tour was spent on visiting wineries, and stocking up on some cellar door only labels. There are about 20 wineries that stretch between Penola to Coonawarra. Pretty much spoiled for choice.
We had lunch at the Hollick Winery, with a commanding view of the vineyards.
It was nice to chill out, as we had the long drive back from Penola to Melbourne via Geelong the next day, a distance of 430 kilometres. It’s been a fantastic road trip.
